Home energy assessment

Ash has a Building Analyist Professional certification through Building Performance Institute, Inc., so part of our services includes providing a home energy assessment. This assessment, also known as a home energy audit, can determine how much energy your home uses, where your home is inefficient, and which problem areas and fixes you should prioritize to save energy and improve the comfort of your home.  A home energy assessment should be your first step before making energy-saving home improvements.

I’ll need a few things from you:

  1. Your past year’s electrical and natural gas bills to determine base & seasonal energy consumption

  2. A completed questionnaire about your home & any issues you’re having

During the assessment, I’ll look at a few things:

  1. Interior and exterior visual inspection for any hazards or safety concerns

  2. Indoor air quality and combustion appliance safety

  3. The insulation at the attic, walls, and crawlspace

  4. The condition and materials of windows and exterior doors

  5. The age and condition of appliances

  6. I’ll perform a blower door depressurization to check air sealing

  7. I’ll use a pressure pan and IR camera during the blower door test to find air leaks in walls, ceilings, and around outlets and leaks in HVAC ducts

If you decide to make improvements to your home, we can conduct another audit after the improvements are complete to measure the effectiveness of the work done.
